Thrifting | My Guilty Pleasure

Thrifting | My Guilty Pleasure

 Hi guys!

I know I’ve been slacking on my thrifting post so I decided to combine some of my most recent finds.

This was a thrifting day and you can tell by my expression I was excited! I’ve been searching for a bookshelf, until my husband decided he was going to make one. Of course me being me…I always find SOMETHING. Here are some things I found on my recent thrifting hauls!

 The Fun Stuff!

I found this beautiful skirt. The color…GORG! Love the embellishment! Very Indian-inspired. One of my favorites.

 Hmmm…

I thought these were cute! Reminds me of my Rah Rah's we wore when I was a cheerleader back in the early 80's! These were made by Nike, but too small. They were like new and only $5!

I have a love for anything tribal, colorful, and crazy patterns! Love this dress…and I think I paid $2.00!

Okay...this dress had been there for weeks. I said if it was still there when I went back, I was going to get it. Little did I know, my husband had already bought it!

I tweeted about this jacket a while back…

I finally got a chance to wear it on my trip to NOLA. It was perfect for the party I attended!

 And This…

I posted it about it here. I found this vintage top in my Mom’s closet and it was FREE!  I wore this sparkly 80′s number on NYE!

I just wore this fun jacket for Mardi Gras - FAT TUESDAY! Love the colors and couldn’t wait to wear it. Unfortunately due to Alabama’s crazy weather, I couldn’t wear it all night. HOT!

Before it came off!

Until next time…Happy Thrifting!

Love Day: Recap

Love Day: Recap

I hope everyone had a wonderful LOVE DAY! Mine was awesome! It was me and my Hubby’s very first Valentine’s Day (as husband and wife)!  I decided to wear red to celebrate. I wore one of my vintage pieces that I found thrifting! I have been waiting for the right time to wear it and it worked out perfectly!

My evening started out with Spin Class and Zumba. I told myself I was going to work out and not let Valentine’s Day be an excuse to skip. It also fell on my heaviest cardio day, so I wanted to make sure I got a great workout. Okay…Okay…I knew I was going to be eating really good!  lol My husband and I decided years ago that we would avoid the big crowds and do an intimate dinner at home, just us — by candlelight! We had one of my favorites, crab legs! We also had delicious steak, sides, wine, and of course dessert!

Dessert!

Somebody was just wrong for these red velvet cookies!!! Glad I worked out! LOL

We don’t go all out of the way with tons of gifts, spending a lot of money, etc. we opt for just good quality and fun time! However, we don’t allow the opportunity to do something special pass us by!

The card on the right was sent with a message from my Dad! <3

This is quite possibly one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done. My Dad passed away 8 years ago last week, but my husband was so thoughtful to include him in on my gifts this year! *tears*

Always Remember,

RISE UP!

RISE UP!

Wheeew! What a workout I had today!   We all get in that comfort zone. Not that my zone wasn’t working because it was…but I felt I needed to push myself more. I take Body Step and it’s pretty intense. Usually I use a set of risers (meaning two – 1 on each side), but today I decided to kick it up a notch and use 2 sets (meaning four – 2 on each side). If you’ve never taken a class, just imagine walking up steps and skipping one. That’s probably equivalent to how high you have step up, all while doing high impact, cardio! It felt great and I didn’t pass out! And, the fact that we have amazing instructors makes it that much easier. After Body Step is Body Pump. Welp…it was pretty brutal. Went up on my weight on a few sets, but I made it through. NO PAIN, NO GAIN! I’ve said before and I’ll say it again…I’m on a mission. CAN’T STOP. WON’T STOP.

Whitney Houston | Legend.Icon.Voice.Music.

Whitney Houston | Legend.Icon.Voice.Music.

I am in total shock…still. I normally don’t like to post when it comes to sad news, but Whitney Houston is an exception.Whitney will always be a Legend, an Icon…and her voice…not enough words to describe. I remember hearing her music like it was yesterday. I think I was probably about 4 years old. My Mom and Dad always had her record or tape in rotation, especially at their house parties.

Such a beautiful woman with such a tremendous journey. My heart and prayers go out to all of her family, manager, friends, fans, and loved ones. Whitney is truly loved and her music will NEVER be forgotten!

Here is a clip of her last Pre-Grammy Performance 2012:

“YES…JESUS LOVES ME!” – That says enough…

*tears*

We love you Whitney!

Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop

Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop

It’s not always an easy journey, but what counts is that you don’t give up. Every now and then you hit those rough spots where you get tired, bored, frustrated, discouraged, but you/we can’t stop there. Being active and exercising is so crucial to our health. Because I am a woman of color, I want to put an end to the stereotypes that “Black Women Don’t Workout” or “Black Girls Don’t Run”. Yes we do…I see it every day, in my gym, on the track, with her baby pushing the stroller to bounce that body back in shape…we’re here. Working hard, looking great!

CAN’T STOP.WON’T STOP.
